Karien Bredenkamp
Karien Bredenkamp is an award-winning Omaha-based artist know for her intricate black-and-white pen-and-ink illustrations. Working exclusively with black ink in a pointillist style, her drawings combine abstract and surreal elements to explore identity, intuition, and the inner worlds that exist beyond language. Her work uses visual symbolism to invite personal reflection, allowing viewers to discover meaning through feeling rather than explanation.
Bredenkamp's imagery is inspired by intuition, the subconscious, and the universal symbols that shape human experience. By pairing familiar elements in unexpected ways, her art creates space for curiosity, self-recognition, and transformation.
Born and raised in the multicultural country of South Africa, Bredenkamp immigrated to the United States with her family in 2015 and has lived in Omaha since. She has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions locally and regularly shows her work at national juried art festivals. In 2024, she published her first illustrated poetry book, Enigma, which brings together her visual art and writing in a unified exploration of symbolism and inner life.
