Michele  Michaelsen

I have been creating art in some shape or way from a very young age. Whether it was cooking and decorating cakes, sculpting, painting or sewing the act of creation has always been central to my happiness. After the death of my mother in 2013, I had her ashes put into a lampwork glass bead by another artist. The whole process was healing and cathartic. I took a lampwork class and started to learn how to make beads, but I didn’t know what to do with the beads. I saw some online courses on wire weaving and decided to learn more. I took the classes and my passion of working with wire and metal was born.

I love the different textures you can create with wire by weaving, shaping, and filing. I enjoy working with natural stones, but I will often incorporate glass, crystals and even wood into my work. My tree of life pieces are some of my most popular and I have made custom trees on stones that have meaning for my customers. I work with silver, gold filled and copper wire. My pieces are patinaed to bring out the texture of the weave.

In addition to my own work, I enjoy teaching creative classes with Metro Community College as well as with the Omaha Bead Affair, Hibernate & Create Retreat, Fremont Area Art Association, and others. My work has been displayed at the Hot Shops Art Center, Gallery Epply, Noyes Art Gallery, and Grove Gallery (now Self Expressions Gallery).
