"In 2009 I returned to my birthplace in the Loess Hills, on the eastern edge of the Missouri River Valley.  My vision is to paint native plant species, and heirloom vegetables which I am helping my sister to grow at Iowana Farm.  I am inspired by American tonal artists from the late 1800's for my landscape painting".

Here you will find a range of work in watercolor, carbon dust, graphite, mixed media, and soft pastel on paper.  It will range from quick studies to fully developed representations.  Some will follow the practice of formal Botanicals, and others will bring forward signature qualities of life in place, using expressive techniques.

Cynthia Gehrie was awarded a certificate in Botanical Art by the Chicago Botanic Garden.  As a Chicago resident, she edited documentary videos, and designed internet sites for local environmental and arts groups.  She is a monitor of rare plants for Plants of Concern, and a member of the American Society for Botanical Artists.
